Project Update: Oh Those Heaps!
September 28, 2006 szovich
I am about to go away for the weekend and have reached my usual dilemma point when packing: which knitting/crocheting projects should I take along?
Of course, I could go with the big things for the girls, the long sleeved sweater and the coat. Then again, I could continue try to find the right size for the garter stitch sweaters that Im making for our two pups. I made an extra small and think it is too little for our littlest, so have to pull the yarn out and start again, leave it for a future template, or felt it for an odd looking potholder.
I am also committed to making hats, mittens, and scarves for each daughter and I could start on one of those. I have an adorable mitten pattern that is, unfortunately, under some heap somewhere. The good news is that I am going to tackle some of those heaps after class. I just hope that I search through the right heap.

Do you really have the time to invest in lugging around the large projects? Not being a knitting kind of girl, I wonder if it might be easier to take the smaller items and possibly finish one of the projects. I know this is prob. nothing that you haven’t already thought of, but just thought that I’d throw it out there.

I was wondering if during the holidays you take on any festive knitting projects? For me, and I’m sure others as well, the holidays are those times when family gatherings are especially precious, and I was wondering if the hats, mitten, and scarves for your daughters are part of a tradition of holiday gift-knitting?
This is going to be a really dumb question, but humor me: I’m assuming there different “weights” of yarn; are there also different fabric blends, as it were?
And, finally, a good question: I imagine that there is quite a community in any town/city that knits or collects yarn/fabric. Are there any trade shows or expos that you frequent?

It is a great idea to make hats, mittens, and scarves for your daughters. That is the wonderful part about knitting, your gifts are special because they are hand made; however they have a utilitarian purpose. I found a sight that has many other knitting blogs you might want to check out. It is http://boogaj.typepad.com/knitting_blogs/. Some of these blogs have nice photos of their work.
